The SpaceFM option for desktop icon management was originally designed for the X11 desktop environment and this feature is now enabled in Trixie Legacy. SpaceFM support for desktop icons in the Wayland environment is a recent port from zzzfm (fork of spacefm) as developed and implemented in Vanilla Dpup (thanks dimkr). See Note-1 below. • Add ARandR Screen Layout Editor to Trixie Legacy. See Note-2 below. • Adjust and simplify the taskbar Search menu in Trixie Wayland and move the Wofi application launcher to the taskbar notification area (right side) for quick access similar to the Synapse application launcher in Trixie Legacy. • Update the launchbar creation module of the SFWbar configuration utility. This greatly simplifies the selection and sorting of menu applications for the launchbar dock. (thanks TerryH) • Update the SpaceFM ftbfs-gcc14 compatibility patch which translates to improved desktop stability (thanks dimkr) • Update UExtract to 4.15 (thanks JakeSFR) • Update dir2deb to v5 (thanks wizard) • Update Firefox ESR to 140.1.0 Note-1: SpaceFM is now the default desktop manager for Trixie Legacy and Trixie Wayland. This functionality enables clickable desktop icons similar to the Rox pinboard of traditional Puppy Linux. Although the SpacFM Preferences module provides an option to interact directly with the underlying window manager (Right click shows WM menu), this release of TrixiePup64 also provides a simple "Desktop Switcher" to disable SpaceFM desktop management and enable the underlying (default) desktop environment (i.e., JWM for Trixie Legacy and Labwc for Trixe Wayland). Go to Menu -> Desktop -> Desktop Switcher. Note-2: As a simple frontend for XRandR, the ARandR tool can simplify management of multiple monitors, allowing one to visually change the resolution, orientation and position of multi-monitor displays. The custom screen layout can be saved as an executable script in /root/Startup for persistence after rebooting. ARandR is provided as an alternative to LXRandR which is also available in Trixie Legacy. Go to Main menu -> Desktop. TrixiePup64 Beta-2 Changelog • New Woof-CE build of TrixiePup64 (24 Jun 2025) including upstream Debian 13.0 binary/security updates • New kernel build (6.12.30) including upstream Debian fixes/updates • Add Trash option to SpaceFM right-click menu (adjacent to Delete option) • Add mhwaveedit to SpaceFM right-click menu (thanks don570) • Add dir2deb utility for creating packages in deb format (thanks wizard) • Add optional taskbar applet for easy access to pRecorder in Trixie Wayland • Add Desktop Switcher to Trixie Legacy to enable easy transitioning to/from SpaceFM and JWM desktop management (Go to Menu -> Desktop -> Desktop Switcher) • Adjust SimpleScreenRecorder to support AAC and MP3 audio codecs in Trixie Legacy (thanks wizard) • Adjust Gdebi MIME association in SpaceFM of Trixie Legacy (thanks wizard) • Adjust Puppy Logou GUI, i.e. consolidate two versions into a single GUI (thanks peebee) • Adjust Labwc compatibility with the Restart and Keyboard layout options of Quicksetup in Trixie Wayland (thanks Duprate and thinkpadfreak). See Note-1 below. • Adjust Labwc compatibility with libinput options in the Mouse/Touchpad properties application of Trixie Wayland (thanks Marv and wizard) • Adjust SFWBar launchbar configuration options to (1) support up to 20 application icons and (2) provide access to all .desktop files in /usr/share/applications including default and hidden applications (thanks mikeslr). See Note-2 and Note-3 below. • Update Firefox ESR to 140.0 • Update MMView to 0.32 including Wayland compatibility and support for direct viewing of multiple additional filetypes (thanks MochiMoppel) • Update Peasyport to 4.3 (thanks rcrsn51) Note-1: After exiting Quicksetup/Quickcounty in the Labwc environment, a requisite popup dialog will remind the user to restart the Wayland graphical server. This step is now required to synchronize Quicksetup with corresponding settings defined by the "Tweaks GTK" application. Restarting the graphical server at this point means the internet connection dialog does not automatically appear after exiting Quicksetup on first boot of Trixe Wayland. In this scenario, after the graphical server restarts, simply left-click the taskbar network connection icon to launch the internet connection wizard (or go to Menu -> Setup -> Internet connection wizard). Note-2: The SFWBar launchbar supports up to 20 application icons but the user is cautioned about adding too many icons since the bar length may exceed the available space on small screens. Note-3: The SFWBbar configuration GUI provides two application windows for populating the optional launchbar. The left window provides a fixed number of Default Apps identical to Rox pinboard applications available in prior Puppy releases. These static launchers point to applications assigned by the Default Application Chooser (Menu -> Setup -> Set default apps). The right launchbar window of the SFWBar configuration GUI now provides expanded access to all Menu Apps including default and hidden application items.
